How to Remove a Container’s Weight with the Unit Tare App

How to Remove a Container’s Weight with the Unit Tare App

SAN DIEGO, CA, January 8, 2021 – This article, will discuss how the Unit Tare App can help your store with removing the weight of a container.

By following these simple steps your store will be ready to automate the removal of a container’s weight. First, identify the type of container. Second, weight the container and open the Unit Tare App.

The Unite Tare App allows your store to enable the set up of containers that are unique to an item. To enable this feature, go to the “Setup Edit Specific Container” option within the app. There you will be able to enter the necessary information.

Please note, you can assign more than one item to a container. However, you cannot assign more than one container to an item.

Now, you’re all set up. Every time the container is scanned, the weight of the container will be removed. What will get recorded will be less than what is on the scale. Thus, the weight of the container is automatically removed at checkout. What’s more, there won’t be any additional clicks or selections required. The Unite Tare App will make checkout convenient.

This video shows how stores can implement the Unit Tare App. Specifically, when stores sell items by weight and containers that are item specific.

How to Get Net Weight on Clover POS with the Unit Tare App

How to Configure Net Weight with the Unit Tare App

Updated February 17, 2022

If you are new to Clover POS and are interested in achieve Net Weight, then the Unit Tare App can be the right solution.

In this tutorial we are going to demonstrate how to utilize the Unit Tare App and configuration to achieve net weight of an items that you are selling at your store.

What is Net Weight?

Net weight is the weight of an item or product without the addition of the packaging or container weight. Net weight is also the weight of the total number of goods loaded into a container excluding the weight of the container.

Getting Started

Step 1: Open the Unit Tare app.

Step 2: Once the app is open, click the plus sign to setup the desired containers.

Step 3: Give the container a name. For this example, we are calling it Small Cup.

Step 4: Select the unit of measure. Selecting the unit of measure is important. This has to match what you have setup on your scale and Clover device. For this example we will use pounds.

It’s important to note that when you setup the unit of measure, it has to match the format of the weight. So, if you select pounds you will see 0.00, if we switch to ounces it will display 0.0, and if you switch to grams it gives you a whole number. So, the unit of measure has to match the weight of the scale. It’s important to specify the unit of measure that you are dealing with during initial setup to avoid errors.

When you select the unit of measure you can just weigh the container to get the weight you will enter.

For this example, we are weighing a cup and entering 0.01 lb.

Step 5: Click the green checkmark to save the information entered.

Now, you have successfully created a container.

Opening the Register App

Now that the container has been properly created, we can proceed to working the Register as we normally would.

Step 1: Open the Register:

Step 2: Select an item that is unit based. For example, we will click Sirloin.

Step 3: You can place the Sirloin and the container on the scale together.

Click the Green Add button. This will trigger the app to open to remove the weight of the container. For our example, we will select the small cup that we previously created.

This will remove the weight of the container.

Conclusion

This is how net weight is achieved.

This video further dives in on how to configure the Unit Tare App to achieve net weight.

How to Exclude Weight Based Items from Triggering Unit Tare App

How to Exclude Weight Based Items from Triggering Unit Tare App

SAN DIEGO, CA, January 14, 2021 – A while ago we launched Unit Tare App, which was formerly known as Container Tare App. The beauty of the Unit Tare App is that you can basically set it up any possible way that you can think of.

This article is going to focus on how to exclude an item from triggering Unit Tare. This function will come in handy when there is no container or the weight of the container is included in the price. For whatever reason you want to exclude that particular item from being trigger.

For example, let’s say you have a sirloin and that item should get triggered since it’s a unit of measure per pound. We are set up per pound and everything looks good so we are triggering on sirloin. Let’s say it’s a small cup.

We are set up per pound and everything looks good so we are triggering on sirloin. Let’s say it’s a small cup.

If this isn’t what you want, there is an additional functionality where you can take a qualified item, for all intents and purposes, the sirloin and you can exclude that item from being triggered.

How to Exclude and Item

Now, if you want to exclude this sirloin from being triggered, this is what you have to do.

Click the Unit Tare icon on your device.

Go to settings

Select exceptions

We need to find that item and for this examples;

Click meats, sirloin

Click save

Exit.

Now, when we go and add the sirloin item again, as you can see it’s not being triggered anymore. The reason why it’s no longer triggering is because we have added that particular item to the exclusion list. So, pretty cool function. With the Unit Tare. You can basically set it up any possible way that you can think of, that’s the beauty of the Unit Tare App.

Can You Use The Unit Tare App Without a Scale?

Will The Unit Tare App Still Work Without a Scale?

SAN DIEGO, CA, January 20, 2021

This article will discuss how to test the Unit Tare App without a scale. In this example we are using the Station while Clover is not connected to the scale. There is a way to test the Unit Tare App without the scale.

To test the Unit Tare App all you have to do is select an item that is per unit.

If you don’t have the scale connected to Clover you will see an interface like this:

It will ask you what is the total weight, what is the gross weight of the item that you are selling. Let’s say you know what it weights and it’s 4.77. You can manually enter the weight.

Then, you hit save and the Unit Tare will still pop up and will ask if the item has a box in it that weighs 0.07 pounds. You will click yes. This will go ahead and remove that from the weight of the package.

You can see you can test the Unit Tare App without the scale.

How to Separate the Weight of a Container from the Item Inside it with the Unit Tare App?

How to Separate the Weight of a Container with the Unit Tare App?

SAN DIEGO, CA, January 18, 2021

Are you looking for a scale and a way to to separate the weight of a container from your deli items?

This article is going to explain how your store can implement the Unit Tare App to do just this. First of all, the key to the app has to do with the scale; The CAS SW-20.

CAS SW-20

The CAS SW-20 scale is compatible with Clover which is connected through this hub.

You will also need this cable in order to get started.

Cable CAS Scale to Clover POS (CBL-SW20-158101)

Once you have all the required hardware, you are ready to download the Unit Tare App.

So, when we select an item that’s a weight based item you will see that it will ask to weight the item. The question then is, what happens if the package that we are weighing includes a container?

Let’s imagine that we are weighing things inside a container but we don’t want the weight of the box. If the container weighs 0.07 lb. and the item weighs 0.13 lb., then the total weight will be 20 lb. But, if you are weighing them together, when the container is packaged, it’s 0.20 lb.

The issue is that we don’t want customers to pay for the container.

When this is all packaged together, how do you separate the package from the contents inside. The solution to this problem is the Unit Tare App.

How You Can Get Started

To get started, click Unit Tare App Container Tare App for Clover

Then, click the “+”

This will prompt the app to ask you to input the new container’s information.

For this example, we will call it a box.

To get the weight, weigh an empty container. Our example weight is 0.07 lb..

Then, click the “Add” button.

Now, you will see a box that weighs 0.07 lb..

Next, you will hit the SYNC button.

And you are done.

Now you are ready to click Register.

Pick an item, for this example, we will pick sirloin item

Then weight the whole container with the contents inside on the scale.

Now simply click “Add

Now the Unit Tare App picks up. It will trigger a new screen to deduct any of the containers from the item that you just weighed.

As you can see, it takes the weight off an item down by deducting the weight of the container. Now we have achieved net weight without the container.

There is no additional selection or steps. The customer doesn’t have to go and look for items anywhere. It’s just triggered every time the weight based item is put in the shopping cart.

This video further demonstrates how to use the Unit Tare App.
