Q&A

Merchant:

A merchant reached out to us wanting to know which app was easiest to use, Weight Embedded Barcode Parser or Variable Price Barcode Parser app better?

CSI Works Support:

The difference between Variable Price Barcode Parser vs Weight Embedded Barcode Parser is technical ;

One is not better than the other in any way. Its just that some scale print weight embedded barcodes and some scale prints price embedded barcodes. Depending on which one your scale is configured to that would drive the decision on which app you need to use.

Q&A

Agent:

An agent reached out needing help with the Negative Tender App, and Redeem Lottery App. He said that he had liked the Negative Tender App because of the reporting capabilities at the end of the day are great.

He printed the following demo transaction ticket

I presented both the Lotto payouts and negative tender apps. He likes Neg tender.  The reporting at days end is great.

In the demo we printed out the transaction ticket.

The agent explained the following:

The person bought $19.01 in merchandise and scratch cards and online lotto.  They paid for it with a $50 in lotto winnings.  The $19.01 purchase does show it was paid for by a lotto payout, but doesn’t show the amount of total lotto winnings or the change to the consumer.  The “Kitchen order” shows the $50 payout.  It works.

However, I went to the gas station across the street and we ran a sample ticket there.  We ran a transaction with a $1 Online purchase and a $2 scratchoff purchase and payed for by a $5 lotto payout.  That’s a $3 purchase and a $2 cashback. Everything shown in one ticket.  The merchant wants to be able to get to the simpler ticket if this can be done.

CSI Works Support:

No, unfortunately it’s not possible to do it on one ticket.

Agent:

Not possible? Or not possible today but something you could do down the road??

CSI Works Support:

Not on Clover. We don’t have access to their receipt on that level.

How to Remove a Container’s Weight with the Unit Tare App

How to Remove a Container’s Weight with the Unit Tare App

SAN DIEGO, CA, January 8, 2021 – This article, will discuss how the Unit Tare App can help your store with removing the weight of a container.

By following these simple steps your store will be ready to automate the removal of a container’s weight. First, identify the type of container. Second, weight the container and open the Unit Tare App.

The Unite Tare App allows your store to enable the set up of containers that are unique to an item. To enable this feature, go to the “Setup Edit Specific Container” option within the app. There you will be able to enter the necessary information.

Please note, you can assign more than one item to a container. However, you cannot assign more than one container to an item.

Now, you’re all set up. Every time the container is scanned, the weight of the container will be removed. What will get recorded will be less than what is on the scale. Thus, the weight of the container is automatically removed at checkout. What’s more, there won’t be any additional clicks or selections required. The Unite Tare App will make checkout convenient.

This video shows how stores can implement the Unit Tare App. Specifically, when stores sell items by weight and containers that are item specific.

Q&A

Agent:

An agent reached out wanting to know where the Variable Price Barcode Parser pulls the price per pound (lb.) (is it being pulled from the barcode or from Clover). He said that meat prices change all the time. The agent explained

“If it’s pulling the pricing from the barcode only, can we just set the price per lb. to it in Clover, so there’s never confusion?  This way the merchant would only have to update the price per lb. on the scale and disregard updating Clover.”

CSI Works Support:

Our support team was able to confirm that the merchant can use Variable Price Barcode Parser app to set the price per lb. on Clover.

To do this, our support team explained to do the following:

“In Clover setup an item as Variable and this way you will never have to adjust pricing on Clover and it will always be picked up from barcode.”

How to Get Net Weight on Clover POS with the Unit Tare App

How to Configure Net Weight with the Unit Tare App

Updated February 17, 2022

If you are new to Clover POS and are interested in achieve Net Weight, then the Unit Tare App can be the right solution.

In this tutorial we are going to demonstrate how to utilize the Unit Tare App and configuration to achieve net weight of an items that you are selling at your store.

What is Net Weight?

Net weight is the weight of an item or product without the addition of the packaging or container weight. Net weight is also the weight of the total number of goods loaded into a container excluding the weight of the container.

Getting Started

Step 1: Open the Unit Tare app.

Step 2: Once the app is open, click the plus sign to setup the desired containers.

Step 3: Give the container a name. For this example, we are calling it Small Cup.

Step 4: Select the unit of measure. Selecting the unit of measure is important. This has to match what you have setup on your scale and Clover device. For this example we will use pounds.

It’s important to note that when you setup the unit of measure, it has to match the format of the weight. So, if you select pounds you will see 0.00, if we switch to ounces it will display 0.0, and if you switch to grams it gives you a whole number. So, the unit of measure has to match the weight of the scale. It’s important to specify the unit of measure that you are dealing with during initial setup to avoid errors.

When you select the unit of measure you can just weigh the container to get the weight you will enter.

For this example, we are weighing a cup and entering 0.01 lb.

Step 5: Click the green checkmark to save the information entered.

Now, you have successfully created a container.

Opening the Register App

Now that the container has been properly created, we can proceed to working the Register as we normally would.

Step 1: Open the Register:

Step 2: Select an item that is unit based. For example, we will click Sirloin.

Step 3: You can place the Sirloin and the container on the scale together.

Click the Green Add button. This will trigger the app to open to remove the weight of the container. For our example, we will select the small cup that we previously created.

This will remove the weight of the container.

Conclusion

This is how net weight is achieved.

This video further dives in on how to configure the Unit Tare App to achieve net weight.

SAN DIEGO, CA, January 8, 2021 – If you are considering offering your customers the opportunity to shop with their own containers, there are perks to this option when using the Unit Tare App. Some of the benefits and savings would be in:

  • Packaging.
  • Advertising.
  • Branding that goes on the shelf.
  • Product can be less expensive to produce without the added packaging.

How to get started with the Unit Tare App

Step 1: Before a customer can begin shopping with their personal container, they will have to follow a few simple steps. Your customer will first need to request to have their container weigh by a store clerk. Then, this information will be entered into the Unit Tare App.

Finally, a barcode tag will be generated and printed that will be given to the customer to use.

Now, the customer will be able to shop with their own container.

Step 2: When the customer returns to pay, they will let the clerk know that they have a tag for their container. The store clerk will go into the register and select an item per weight. Then, place the item on the scale and scan the tag.

After scanning, the weight of the container is removed. Then the tag can be disregarded and the customer can finalize their transaction.

Conclusion

Offering your customers the option to shop with their own containers is easy with the Unit Tare App. Both you and your customer will benefit from this option.

Can the Thousandths Digit Be Entered When Selling by Weight in the Clover Register App?

How to Enter the Thousandths Digit in Clover Register

Type: Support Call

Call Reported On: 01-22-2022

Products Discussed: Clover

Q&A

Merchant:

A merchant reached out to our support team because they had questions about Clover’s sell by weight capabilities. The merchant was interested in adding three digits after the decimal point. By default Clover uses two digits after the decimal point. The third decimal digit from the decimal point is the thousandths digit.

For example, this merchant sells candy by the pound. In order for this merchant to sell 1/8 a pound, they need to enter 0.125 which are three digits after the decimal point. Can this be done in the Clover Register app?

CSI Works Support:

Yes, it can be done.

But not on the scale. The thousands value can only be entered manually.

Here is a video that demonstrates Clover sell by weight capabilities:

Is There a Replacement to the Geo Tax Changer App?

How to Change Sales Tax While Using Multiple Clover Flex Devices?

Type: Support Call

Call Reported On: 02-20-2022

Products Discussed: Geo Tax Changer

Q&A

Agent:

We had an agent contact us wanting to know if there was a way to change the sales tax based on location. He noticed that our Geo Tax Changer app had been discontinued and wanted to know if we had replaced the app. The reason he wanted to know is because is working with a merchant who needs an app that will be able to pick up sales tax for multiple Clover Flex devices, with the same merchant ID, and located in different areas.

CSI Works Support:

The Geo Tax Changer app was discontinued for this reason. We made the app to change the sales tax based on location. We can get Clover to identify its location and trigger the tax change. The problem is that we can’t get Clover to stop syncing.

For example, let’s say you have 10 flexes on the same merchant IDs and all in different locations. If Flex 1 triggers the tax change to New York and at the same time or within 10 seconds Flex 2 start an order in California, then the tax rate will get switched to New York. The reason why the tax rate gets switched is because Clover Syncs all its devices on a single merchant id.

Clover syncing all its devices on a single merchant id creates a huge problem. While our app can change the sales tax it creates an infinite loop whereby flexes in different locations are triggering different sales tax rate and merchant still has to be very mindful of what sales tax is being applied.

This is the reason we unpublished Geo Tax Changer. Clover won’t stop syncing its devices and we can’t find a stable solution to this problem.

Natural solution to your problem is different Merchant Ids for each location.

Q&A

Agent:

An agent contacted us because he has a merchant who runs a meat house. The merchant needs to know if his meat CAS scales would need to be hooked up to ethernet for them to work with Clover.

CSI Works Support:

Our support team let the agent know that there is no connection between the scale or Clover.

What makes Clover and the scale work is the Barcode that is printed on the label from the scale. The merchant would need to install Variable Price Barcode Parser app to enable Clover to understand the price embedded barcodes that are being printed from the scale.
